Description

A family has a small tomcat and an adult cat. The cat lives mostly outdoors. Since the tomcat is still quite young, he spends a lot of time indoors. He sleeps indoors especially at night. One weekend, the family drives to a wedding that takes place a little further away, staying overnight for two nights (from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening). The cat stays outside anyway and is fed by the neighbours. The family is concerned about the young tomcat because he has never been outside continuously (only during the day) and foxes and martens are active at night (a cat has already ‘disappeared’ once).
Since it is only for a weekend, the family decides to keep the young tomcat in the house. He has enough food and drink. The litter tray has also been prepared and is sufficient for a weekend.
When the family returns, the cat seems to be fine. Over the next few days, he is a little quieter than usual, but shows no signs of illness, so no one thinks anything of it. On the fourth day, one of his front paws suddenly starts to limp. At first, everyone thinks he may have injured himself. But the next day, the first paw is fine again, but the other one is limping. Another day later, the paralysis is gone, but the cat can no longer keep his food down. He withdraws and vomits every time after eating. He also feels noticeably warmer than usual (fever). These symptoms last for about 2–3 days (although the vomiting stops on day 3).
After that, everything is fine again and he behaves as usual. What happened here?
The tomcat always loves to play with the cat. He clutches her with his front paws and nibbles at her. There is no cat flap in the house. So when the family was away, he sat in the house and most likely heard the other cat ‘calling’ him at the front door.
However, he couldn't get to her because the door was locked
→ motor conflict (can't move as he wants to) + visual conflict (has lost sight of the other cat and the family)
At some point after the family returned, the conflicts must have been resolved (he can see everyone again, is allowed to play with the cat again and move around freely). The initial healing phase was barely noticeable. With the epicrisis came reciprocal paralysis symptoms in precisely those parts of the body that he uses to play (front paws). The inflammation of the eyes was not quite as severe and was only discovered because he was now being closely observed due to his significant change in behaviour. The vomiting could have been part of the epicrisis of a territorial conflict. However, it may also have been a side effect of the healing phase (water retention creates pressure in the brain, which can also lead to vomiting, as is known from severe migraine attacks).
It is interesting to note that, according to conventional medicine, the ‘calcivirus infection’ (which has the above symptoms) often occurs in young cats and cats that live in confinement. This is a strong indication of motor conflicts in resolution (young cats are usually kept indoors and confined cats cannot move freely anyway).

Note: Have you also had exciting experiences with the 5BL? If so, it would be great if you could send us an anonymized report so that we can publish it in the archive and everyone can benefit from your experiences. Thank you very much!
